TUCKED AWAY IN A SECLUDED ALLEY WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY COMPLETE PEACE AND TRANQUILITY
The property certainly lives up to its name, which is Maltese for ‘The Hideaway’. Il-Moħba is a typical Gozo farmhouse that has been converted in a beautiful accommodation boasting plenty of natural light. What used to be a working farmhouse is now a beautiful home with an unusual layout. This adds to Il-Moħba’s attractiveness.
You will truly feel cut-off from the rest of the world, not because the farmhouse is in some remote location but mostly because of tranquillity of the surrounding area. Upon entering the farmhouse, you get the distinct feeling that the house is wrapping its arms around you and urging you to let go of all your worries.
There are a total of three air-conditioned bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bath or shower room. Just off the living room is a well-equipped kitchen that leads to a really cosy arched dining room. From the living room itself, you can go out to the sunny, south-facing pool deck and a safely fenced-off (a rarity) pool.
The pool and deck area, though not huge, provides ample space for six persons. You can enjoy direct sun throughout the day. Parasols and a gazebo over the dining table provide plenty of shade. A barbecue is provided. The pool is accessed through a fence which makes this outdoor space quite safe for children.
Conveniently located in the village of Munxar. You are within walking distance or a short drive to most amenities. Within a short walk, you will find a couple of grocery stores which will provide you with all your daily needs. Xlendi Bay is just down the road, less than a five-minute drive away. Victoria is also a short distance from the farmhouse.

We stayed in this property over Easter 2019 and had a very enjoyable holiday. The farmhouse is exactly as it appears on the photos with three good-sized bedrooms, very practical living areas (including 1,000+ channels on the satellite TV!), a well-equipped kitchen and a pretty outside area which is not really overlooked by surrounding properties. As parents of young children, we appreciated the fence separating the pool from the house, and the lock on the outside spiral staircase on to the roof area. The awning that sheltered the outside dining table was also a nice touch. The property is situated at the edge of one of Gozo’s smaller villages and consequently was very peaceful, although renters should be aware that the property is off a very narrow street with houses on both sides so parking in front of the property is impossible. There is plenty of parking ~50m away however. There is a small but well-stocked supermarket within walking distance and the whole of Gozo can be explored easily by car from the property. There was some residential building work at the end of the alley during our stay but hopefully this has since been completed and in any case Malta and Gozo seem to be experiencing high levels of construction currently so I’m not sure that anywhere is unaffected. The owners of the property met us on arrival to give us a full tour and were very easy to contact throughout our stay. In summary, we were very happy to have hired this property.
The farmhouse was all that it was advertised as. We have stayed at many places over the years and nit had such detailed welcoming information let alone the welcome embrace of the home: we felt an immediate sense of relaxation.
The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable, good showers and a good workable kitchen already nicely stocked with spices, let alone the welcome food package which was greatly appreciated as our flights were delayed so much so that we didn’t arrive until well after midnight. Outside the private yard was well appointed: BBQ, lounge chairs, cats and we ate quite a bit under the little shelter. As Canadians we even used the pool; very refreshing.
This is the first time we really couldn’t fault anything but if you want something so that it isn’t perfect we had trouble locating the light switches, but that just added to the charm.
The local area, walks and people were also quite wonderful.
The imposing Sanap cliffs are a must-see. Take a boat from Xlendi or Mgarr to view them from the water. You can also enjoy the stunning vistas by taking a walk from the villages of Munxar or Sannat.
